Public meeting on Social media and Cyber Bullying was held at the Carlton Hotel, Tyrrelstown, Dublin 15 on Tuesday 2nd April at 7:30 pm.
The purpose of this public meeting is to look at the difference between the digital world and the real world and to provide information to parents. To discuss the challenges facing young people today and how parents could protect their children from online groomers and predators.
Guest speakers will include: Helena Murphy - Doctoral Researcher with the National Anti-Bullying Research and Resource Centre, DCU, Stephen Burke – Founder of Cyber Risk Aware and Radek Nowak, Manager - Cloud Infrastructure and Cybersecurity at eShopWorld
Speaking in advance of the meeting, Fine Gael Local Election candidate for Blanchardstown – Mulhuddart, Punam Rane, said “With the increasing number of devices our children use to connect, most young people have access to social media sites around the clock. Cyberbullying can have a really devastating effect on the victim. That’s where Parental Controls and Privacy Settings that will limit who can see their activity can help.”
